SCULPTURES
The majority of the works here have an implied instability that creates palpable tension. They begin as material explorations of vinyl, industrial felt, nylon strapping, and concrete that often rely on the architectural structures around them for physical support. Appearing lumbering and perhaps fragile, the sculptures oscillate between domineering anthropomorphic forms and naïve objects. Viewers perceive their own corporeal being relative to the scale and weight of the sculptures.
RECENT PROJECTS
Two Legs and a Squiggle, 2020
Two Legs and a Squiggle is a 2020 public sculpture that resulted after an artist residency at the Google campus in Mountainview, California. It was designed and partially fabricated in my studio and the installation was completed onsite. Later that year, the tripod sculpture, part of the "In Wobbling" series (red) was acquired and installed in a courtyard on Google's campus as well.
SCULPTURAL INSTALLATIONS
In addition to my standalone sculptures, I also create sculptural installations for the gallery and in the landscape. Here are a few examples of both from the Headlands Center for the Arts, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and University of California, Davis. The final image is a steel form wrapped in retroreflective fabric, "Cataphote," it was a collaboration with Chris Meerdo completed at 8550 OHIO.
